Abington is an unincorporated community in Abington Township, Wayne County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.[1]

History

Abington, Indiana

Abington was laid out and platted in 1817.[2]

A post office was established at Abington in 1824, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903.[3] The name of this Quaker settlement recalled the Abington Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends located in Pennsylvania.

In 1890, the population was estimated as around 200 residents.[4] In 1900, the population was 186.[5]

By 1920, the population was 150.[6] The population was 80 in 1940.[7]
