The Oriental pantheine genus Anepholcia was first separated by A.E. Prout (1924) from the heterogeneous complex Trisuloides sensu older authors (Hampson 1910; Warren 1912; Jordan et al., 1909–1914) (Behounek et al. 2011). Originally Anepholcia included the type-species A. talboti and A. pygaria, both described from Sumatra.
