Burntwood Green is a former hamlet[1] and a suburb of Burntwood in the Lichfield District in the county of Staffordshire, England. Burntwood Green now forms part of the wider Burntwood civil parish and urban area.[2]

History

Burntwood Green was one of the three original settlements of Burntwood, alongside neighbouring Edial and Woodhouses as a township within the ancient parish of Lichfield St Michael.[3] In the mid-19th century, Burntwood Green, Ediall and Woodhouses grew alongside the newer villages of Boney Hay, Burntwood, Chase Terrace and Chasetown during the Industrial Revolution and coal mines. Following closure of the coal mines, Burntwood Green was effectively merged with the four villages and now forms a large part of Burntwoods urban area.[4]

Amenities

Burntwood Green is now primarily made up of residential estates and private residences. It is home to Christ Church[5], the Old Schoolhouse[6] and the Star Hotel[7]. The nearest shopping districts are in Burntwood and Lichfield.

Transport

Burntwood Green is close to the village of Hammerwich, which was once served by a railway station on the South Staffordshire line.
