The Church of St. Petka (Serbian Cyrillic: Црква свете Петке, Hungarian: Szent Petka templom) is a church in Majs, Baranya County, dedicated to St. Petka. It was rebuilt in 1781.[1] It is the second Serbian orthodox church established in the village.[2]
It is built in a typical style of provincial Baroque.[2] A distinctive feature of the church is the decorative metal finial on its tower, which includes two levels of ornamentation: the lower level is designed as a pseudo-lantern, while the upper level tapers conically in four steps, culminating in a base topped with an orb and a cross.[2]
The current iconostasis, created in 1806, was painted by Jakov Nedić, a provincial iconographer, and his son Stojan.[2] Nedić, a resident of the village of Bobota, is known for his work on iconostases in Batasek, Borjad, and Majš.[2] The church underwent restoration in 1896.[2]
Since 1984, it has been under historical monument protection.[3]
