Gurban Gurbanov (born 28 January 2002) is an Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler competing in the 82 kg division. He won the gold medal at the 2025 European Wrestling Championships.[1]
Career
In September 2017, Gurbanov took first place at World Cadets Championships in Greece.[2] In May 2018, he finished second at European Cadets Wrestling Championships in Skopje.[3] In September 2021, he took silver at the First CIS Games in Kazan.
In October 2022, Gurbanov won the Under-23 World Championships held in Pontevedra, Spain.[4] In March 2023, Gurbanov won the European Under-23 Championship in Bucharest, defeating Ukraine's Irfan Mirzoev in the final.[5]
In the 2025 European Wrestling Championships held in Bratislava, Slovakia, after bypassing the first round, he reached the final by defeating Armenian Samvel Grigoryan 3-1 in the second round, Islam Aliev competing for the World Wrestling Union 2-1 in the quarterfinals, and Georgian Gela Bolkvadze 4-0 in the semifinals. He won the gold medal by defeating Hungarian Erik Szilvássy 6-0 in the final match.[6]
